- User Preferences: Your chosen response style (concise, detailed, educational), theme settings, and keyboard shortcuts are stored locally in your browser.
- Saved Explanations: If you choose to save explanations, they are stored locally in your browser's storage.
How We Use Your Information
We use the collected information solely for the following purposes:
- To provide AI-powered explanations for text you select on web pages
- To remember your preferences and settings for a better user experience
- To cache explanations locally when you choose to save them
Data Sharing and Third Parties
ExplainIt does not sell, trade, or otherwise transfer your personal information to third parties, except as described below:
- Groq API: Selected text is sent to Groq's API service to generate explanations. Groq processes this data according to their own privacy policy.
- Legal Requirements: We may disclose information if required by law or to protect our rights and safety.
Data Storage and Security
- All user preferences and saved explanations are stored locally in your browser using Chrome's storage API
- Selected text is only temporarily processed and not permanently stored by us
- We implement reasonable security measures to protect your information
Data Retention
- User preferences are retained until you clear your browser data or uninstall the extension
- Saved explanations remain stored locally until you delete them or clear browser data
- Selected text for explanations is not retained after the explanation is generated

- Uninstall the extension at any time

Children's Privacy
ExplainIt is not intended for children under 13 years of age. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.
